Full Sail: Music Production BS
Do you ever explore all of your options when making a big decision, but then end up going with the first option you were presented? Full Sail was the first college I ever discovered. I met some of their representatives at a pop-up tent at Warped Tour; that’s basically a college fair, right? At 14, there was no way I was thinking about college yet, but they gave me free Full Sail sunglasses so they always stuck at the back of my mind.

After I left APU, I still wanted to get a degree in music production, but I needed a school that could be flexible. Full Sail ended up being a great option because it was online and didn’t have mandatory lectures, so I could take things at my own pace.

Unfortunately, I recently had a quarter life crisis and realized I actually hated was I was doing. Turns out I don’t have the best ears and listening to the same song over and over again drives me crazy! So I switched to Entertainment Business. Even though I was only about a year from graduating, I couldn’t stand to do the work and I felt that this degree might not be useful to me if I ever wanted to do anything that wasn’t music-related.

I may not have finished this degree, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t get any valuable skills and experience from this program. I have become great at music theory, I learned the importance of the history of our music, and I’m great at giving people feedback on their music. Overall, I have a great understanding of all the aspects of music and the industry.

I’m not proud that I’ve dropped out of 2 programs, but I am proud that I am following my heart and now working toward a degree that will teach me skills applicable to any career I could take on. Music is still a huge part of my life and I know I’ll use many of my musical skills in the future, but music is not the center of my life. My professors have been telling me for years now that in order to be successful at creating music, you have to eat, breathe, and sleep music; after trying this for many years, I now know that that just isn’t the person I am.

I will soon post projects from this program here.
